Mesotrophic Mind

about

‘Meso’, from the Greek μέση (‘mésos’, middle) is often used to denote a middle ground, the in-between place. When it was applied to Mesopotamia, it referred to the land (currently parts of Iraq, Kuwait, Syria, Turkey) that lies between the two rivers, Tigris and Euphrates. This was one of the places where the world’s first urban densities arose, with developments in writing and agricultural practices leading to its nickname, ‘the cradle of civilisation’. From a UK context, this track looks to Mesopotamia for alternative
narratives that counteract any presumed superiority of Western cultures. It speaks against the othering of difference and of the creation of insular nationalist identities.
